Background
Gladstone Regional Council undertook a program of works to upgrade the region’s water and sewerage infrastructure to meet the demands of its growing population. Leed was awarded the design and construction of two concrete reservoirs.
• The 10ML Paterson 2 Reservoir in Gladstone was selected to increase water supply storage capacity for the Gladstone CBD, Gladstone South, Barney Point, West Gladstone and Hanson Road commercial and industrial vicinities.
• The 11ML reservoir at Kirkwood extends into the existing water storage capacity in Clinton and allows for growth in the Clinton, New Auckland and Kirkwood areas.
Outcomes
Initially, the concept design called for a mild steel roof supported by concrete columns. However, based on Leed’s extensive experience in tank construction, the team recommended stainless steel columns and an aluminium roof, resulting in a lower-maintenance solution for the long term. Leed delivered this project on time and within budget, maintaining an outstanding safety record.
