Background
Leed was engaged by Parkes Shire Council (PSC) to deliver the Parkes Recycled Water Rising Main Project (RWRM) and the Advanced Water Recycling System (AWRF) to supply recycled water to nominated end-user take-off points.
The RWRM scope included the design and construction of 12km of recycled water pipelines, three pump stations and a 2.4ML reservoir. The construction was primarily undertaken in an R1 residential zone, meaning that the work was undertaken in close proximity to private residences and other sensitive receivers such as schools, some businesses/shop fronts, the cemetery and churches.
Leed engaged proactively and effectively with stakeholders to ensure minimum disruption throughout construction.
Outcomes
- Worked with the client to understand the operation of an existing asset to ensure it could be augmented to maintain existing asset integrity whilst still achieving key performance of the new system.
- Incorporated redundancy in the overflow of the recycled water tank in terms of mechanical cut offs, and an overflow lagoon to ensure that the tank didn’t overflow into a natural waterway at the back of the site.
- Removed below-ground pits and installed all valves and flow meters within the pump station, which mitigated the need for maintenance staff to access confined spaces.
