Leed and designer WSP worked collaboratively with SA Water across all packages of work in design and construct arrangements, realising program efficiencies.

  • Stage 2A – 15km pipeline DN375 PVC watermain
  • Stage 2B – 19km of DN375 DICL pipe and installation of fireplugs, connections and construction of access roads.
  • Muston Road – construction of 7.5km DN200 DICL of water trunk main at Muston Road and American River Road.
  • Reticulation Packages – Installation of 5km of new DN150 PVC pipework to Baudin Beach andf 11km of new DN100 PVC pipework to Island Beach and associated connections.

Managing Safety

To prioritise road safety and optimise productivity, we implemented a 24-hour traffic management system throughout the project. As part of our safety measures, we employed temporary traffic lights on site, eliminating the requirement for personnel to be positioned in close proximity to the high-speed 100kmph road. Throughout each phase of the project, we consistently reinstated the road during construction, guaranteeing its safety and usability and thereby minimising potential traffic hazards.

Community Engagement

The project actively engaged the local community, with almost 20 KI-based businesses directly involved in the construction phase and over 90% of the total contract spend going to South Australian businesses. Sourcing materials and resources from within Kangaroo Island, wherever possible, meant we could support local businesses and lower our carbon footprint.
