Background
Snowy Hydro Limited’s Jindabyne Pumping Station Bypass Chute plays a key role in the Snowy Scheme infrastructure, supporting water storage, pumping, flood mitigation and power generation. The structure and surrounding slope were damaged in 2022 due to high water levels, and the chute could no longer be operated.
Our team has worked with Jacobs to deliver a temporary repair solution that enables Snowy Hydro to continue operations until a permanent replacement is completed.
The works included removing damaged sections of the chute, installing ground anchors and shear keys and refurbishing the headwall and flip bucket. Slope stabilisation was also undertaken on the batters surrounding the chute, including the construction of a MassBloc Wall and installation of rock armour comprising 24,000+ large-size rocks, individually placed into a masterpiece!
Outcomes
- Large rockery armour (8000+ ton of oversize rock placed)
- 40m long MassBloc Wall
- Placement of geofabric and Rock Protection to form a 1:1.6 protective batter – 4000T
- Rock scaling and shotcrete application
- Reinstating an operational asset for Snowy Hydro
- Successful delivery on time and under budget, using local quarry suppliers for imported rock
- ECI optimised planning and works delivery model
- Relationship building project with Snowy Hydro Client
