Background
Local government areas have collaborated to establish the Brown Hill and Keswick Creeks Stormwater Board as part of plans to address stormwater management challenges in metropolitan Adelaide.
Working with the Brown Hill Keswick Creeks Stormwater Board and ProcurePM, Leed delivered creek realignments and drainage works as part of Brown Hill Keswick Creek Stormwater Project’s overall flood mitigation project for Adelaide. The upgrades also featured improved shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians, and landscaping enhancements. The works involved the construction of a low-level mound in an east-west direction (up to 1 m high) and the realignment of the existing creek lines in the southern section of the park. New open channels brought the existing creeks to a common point behind the mound on the northern side, enabling controlled flows to be discharged under Greenhill Road and downstream. The existing shared-use paths were re-constructed to suit the new layout, and the new drainage works enable part of the existing creek alignment to be backfilled to support tree health.
Outcomes
Careful planning ensured minimal disruption to nearby businesses and public access, including the TreeClimb adventure course. The project delivered improvements to amenities, ecological sustainability, and stormwater drainage through landscaping with diverse vegetation suited to the parkland environment and wetland ecology.
