Background
Quipolly Dam is an earthen storage dam with a capacity of 5,400 ML that supplies water to Werris Creek in northern New South Wales. After receiving a high hazard rating, the dam required a significant safety upgrade.
Scope
- 7m high reinforced concrete cut-off wall along the dam crest
- 5.5m earthen embankment raising including rip-rap protection along the upstream face
- A new 10m high reinforced concrete training wall
- Spillway upgrade involving temporary coffer dam, underfloor drainage, ground anchors, reinforced concrete apron slab and the installation of fuse gates
- Demolition of existing footbridge
- Upgrades to the Intake tower and access bridge
- Instrumentation
- Construction of a sealed crest access road.
Outcomes
Leed and Liverpool Plains Shire Council worked in a highly collaborative partnership, leading to successful outcomes, including the 7m high reinforced concrete cut-off along the crest of the earthen embankment, spillway widening, and installation of underfloor drainage, anchors, and fuse gates.
