Background

The Cannon Valley Reservoir Complex forms a key part of the Cannonvale bulk potable water supply system. The system improves the connectivity and flexibility of the potable water supply system which services Proserpine, Cannonvale, Airlie Beach, Jubilee Pocket, Shute Harbour, and surrounding communities.

Leed was engaged by the Whitsunday Regional Council under the project to design and construct 2 x 12.5ML reservoirs to effectively double existing water supply capacity. The project was co-funded by the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund.

Scope

  • 2 x 40m diameter, 11.5m high post tensioned concrete reservoirs
  • Associated inlet, outlet and scour pipework
  • Stormwater drainage and hardstands
  • Telemetry, site lighting, solar power supply system and battery backup

Outcomes

The Cannon Valley Reservoir Complex has significantly increased the potable water storage capacity within the coastal water supply system and allows the bulk water supply storage to be separated from the reticulation network to improve operational flexibility and cyclone resilience.

The reservoir allows for emergency / alternative supply to Proserpine and facilitates the efficient renewal of water infrastructure for this town.
