Investing in safer worksites through smarter technology

17 July 2026

Safety is at the centre of every project we deliver across Australia. At Leed, we own and operate our own fleet, and we’re committed to investing in technology that helps our people work safer, smarter and more efficiently on site.

As part of an ongoing fleet upgrade, GPS machine control is now standard across all Leed excavators 15 tonnes and over, including 50-tonne excavators like the one pictured.

Not long ago, excavation relied heavily on pegs in the ground, repeated survey checks, radio calls and constant adjustments from inside the cab. Today, our operators have access to engineering designs and live site data directly from the machine, while project teams can monitor progress through desktop works management software.

The technology improves excavation accuracy while reducing unnecessary machine movements and the need for repeated level, load and alignment checks. Just as importantly, it helps create a safer environment for everyone working around excavation activities.

Our Caterpillar Next Gen excavators also include a range of advanced safety features, including:

  • E-Fence technology, which establishes virtual height, depth and swing boundaries to help operators avoid overhead and underground hazards.
  • Payload monitoring, which provides real-time material weights for every bucket load and indicates when optimum hauler capacity has been reached.
  • Lift Assist, which detects whether a load remains within the excavator’s safe working range during lifting activities.

As a self-performing contractor, we have greater control over the equipment, technology and systems we bring to our projects. It means we can invest in the latest technology and innovations for our worksites, helping to ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of each day.
