Background
The Laanecoorie Weir system was built in 1891 and is the second-oldest dam in Victoria. It supplies water to residential and commercial users in the townships of Laanecoorie, Tarnagulla, Dunolly and Bealiba. The Laanecoorie Dam underwent a safety upgrade to address the inadequacy of coping with large floods.
Leed developed a solution to mitigate overtopping of the demolished left-hand training wall through the design and installation of temporary protection. We also devised a cost-saving initiative as a permanent solution against piping failure between the crest and the training wall.
Outcomes
Leed achieved excellent safety outcomes by adhering to methods specially developed for working over water. We also managed the risk of the demolished left‐hand training wall overtopping by installing temporary protection works.
