Background
The Young Sewage Treatment Plant underwent a significant transformation, replaced with a modern 12,000 EP STP. This upgrade enhanced the treatment process and allowed the reuse of treated water to reclaimed standards. The water is now used to irrigate public parks and fields, reducing the town’s reliance on its potable water supply.
Outcomes
Seamless commissioning: Regular collaboration between the operator and designer ensured a smooth and successful commissioning process.
Uninterrupted operations: The original STP remained fully operational throughout the construction of the new plant, avoiding any service disruption.
Cost savings: A cooperative contracting approach resulted in significant cost savings, such as reusing water during construction, eliminating the need for additional clean water for aerator testing.
“Council was able to maintain a good working relationship with the contractor throughout the project which ensured that when issues arose, they were promptly dealt with in a cooperative manner in order to minimise time and cost impacts on the project for all parties.”
