Background

Located in Woodside, in the Adelaide Hills, the Bird-in-Hand Sewage Treatment Plant plays a vital role in treating wastewater for multiple catchments, including Lobethal, Woodside, Charleston, and Inverbrackie.

This project encompassed the detailed design, construction, and commissioning of a new wastewater treatment plant, replacing the existing facility.

Approach

Leed was selected as the Design and Construct contractor following our early involvement in the concept design phase under the Early Contractor Involvement model. Throughout the upgrade, the existing wastewater treatment plant continued to operate seamlessly, ensuring no disruption to the community.

In collaboration with SA Water, the project was delivered with a strong focus on community engagement and cultural heritage preservation. Outstanding safety outcomes were achieved by implementing specific safe work methods, including working over water and at height.

Outcomes

The new plant efficiently processes flows from Lobethal and Woodside and provides high-quality reuse water to the area.
