Background
This D&C project focused on enhancing the safety of the 1896 historic Dumaresq concrete dam, by using post tension anchors to strengthen it. The primary goal was to ensure the dam wall’s stability during severe floods while maintaining its current height and preserving its historical appearance.
Scope
- Drilling and installation of 61 post tension anchors (approximately 30m deep) on the dam crest and dam toe
- Underwater works using a diver to abandon the existing scour outlet and upgrade the existing outlet pipe
- Extension of the left abutment
- Rip rap erosion protection
- Downstream valve house construction
Outcomes
The successful execution of the project ensures the dam’s resilience to severe floods, safeguarding the public and preserving its historical value.
