Background
The M6 pipeline is a 196km long DN600 buried pipeline, which transfers over 390 L/s of raw water from the Great Artesian Basin (GAB) Wellfield B to the Olympic Dam site and Roxby Downs township through three pump stations. The raw water is transferred to Olympic Dam for both processed and desalinated potable water.
The M6 pipeline was originally constructed in 1997 and has been undergoing a renewal program. Leed has delivered almost 120km of replacement pipeline since our first engagement on this project in 2016.
Outcomes
We developed a methodology in a sensitive dune area, with support from the client, to ensure no damage was inflicted on a heritage zone. We worked with the client and Traditional Landholders in the sensitive areas to ensure no damage was done to cultural heritage sites. We established strong relationships with the Traditional Landowners, which in turn built trust in our approach to construction. The optimised methodology minimized both the earthworks required and the environmental impacts.
