Anzac Highway / South Road Underpass Design and Construct contract awarded to Leed/Thiess joint venture “AdelaideConnect”

The Minister for Transport, Patrick Conlon, has announced that a design and construct contract has been awarded to “AdelaideConnect”.

AdelaideConnect is a consortium that includes Leed and Thiess (the construction contractors), Parsons Brinckerhoff (designers), HASSELL (urban designers). Together with the Department for Transport, Energy and Infrastructure (DTEI) the team was formed as part of a new project delivery initiative for SA adopted by DTEI, called Early Contractor Involvement (ECI). This delivery model allows all parties involved in the project from design to construction to come together at the beginning so the most cost effective and innovative solution will be built.

Following the successful completion of the ECI process AdelaideConnect have been awarded the design and construct of the underpass. Demolition of the existing structures aklong the western side of South Road has commenced, relocation of services such as electrical, telephone and water will commence in July. Construction of the underpass and road upgrade will likely commence in late 2007.
