Pipeline To Replace Existing Torrens Aqueduct
Client: SA Water
Location: Hope Valley, SA
Year: 2007
Leed, as Principal Contractor, has been awarded an EPCM contract to deliver a 3.5km pipeline to replace the existing aqueduct and will provide a gravity flow of raw water from Kangaroo Creek reservoir to the inlet at the Hope Valley Reservoir.
The project includes construction of the pipeline along the banks of the Torrens River at Hope Valley (Linear Park), interfaces and tie in works at the commencement of the pipeline and at Hope Valley tunnel, design and installation of SCADA control system and an upgrade/re-lining of the Hope Valley Tunnel.
Demolition of the existing aqueduct and landscaping is required once the new system has been commissioned.
Construction challenges include:
- Construction along Linear park – Public walking track and park
- Crossing of River Torrens six times
- Co-ordination of change over from open channel to pipeline so as not to prevent water supply
