Leed celebrates Sweet Success in South Road Superway tender win

On 8 November 2010, Leed moved into an exciting new phase of its evolution.

Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese and South Australian Transport Minister Patrick Conlon announced that Leed’s Urban Superway Joint Venture team had been awarded the highly prized South Road Superway contract.

The $812 million dollar road infrastructure project is the biggest single investment ever in South Australia, and is the State’s most complex road engineering project to date. It’s also a key part of the South Australian Government’s plan for the future of Adelaide’s road network.

This landmark win was the news that all Leed staff had been eagerly awaiting. Along with our Joint Venture colleagues at John Holland (40% partner) and MacMahon Contractors (40% partner), we were both excited and relieved at the announcement. For Leed, this project will be our largest to date, and everyone in the company has worked extremely hard to reach this point. Leed Chief Executive Officer Greg Tunny said.

“This is just the end of the beginning. Both Leed and our colleagues in the Urban Superway JV have won the right to undertake a large and challenging project. We have much to do.

Much to do indeed. We will be working as a ‘best for project’, fully integrated JV team in order to ensure that no interface issues arise during construction. Leed will be working on in ground, at grade and road works, as well as the local manufacture of precast elements for the box sections.

Mr Tunny said of the project.

“Project completion will not be achieved for some years yet, but success will come when the Urban Superway JV delivers the South Road Superway both on time, and on budget”.
