Saturday, March 07, 2009This $75 million State and Federal Government funded project is the SA Governments first delivered using an Alliance model and will have the capacity to provide more than 3.8 billion litres of high quality recycled water annually. In addition to supplying existing customers, the project will provide a minimum of 1.3 billion litres each year to irrigate the Adelaide Park Lands.
The Glenelg to Adelaide Park Lands Recycled Water Project (GAP) is being delivered by the CityGreen Alliance, comprising:
- SA Water
- Leed Engineering and Construction
- Leighton Services
- Guidera O'Connor
- United Water
The project will provide a sustainable long-term solution for watering the cities Park Lands and can provide opportunities for the development of additional recycled water initiatives. It will reinforce Adelaide’s position as a green city and a leader in water conservation. It will also contribute to a range of significant environmental benefits including:
- Reduced discharges of treated wastewater to the Gulf St Vincent
- Increasing the annual reuse of treated wastewater from the Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant by more than three times
- Improved health of the River Torrens and quality of water in the Torrens Lake.
Construction of the new recycled water treatment facility at the Glenelg Wastewater Treatment Plant is now underway, the first stage of the underground pipeline in Adelaide Airport Limited land has been completed and installation of the trunk main pipeline in the suburbs of Netley and Marleston is ongoing.
A CityGreen Alliance construction team is currently installing the ring main pipeline in the eastern and southern Park Lands, and a second team is working in the northern Park Lands, within the North Adelaide Golf Course.
